Cam Birtwell was Ryan Cochrane's strength coach for the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games. Ryan won a bronze in 2008 and silver in 2012
Legendary Paralympic athlete Stephanie Dixon claimed 16 medals at the highest level in swimming.
Cam Birtwell was Hilary's strength and conditioning coach from 2010 to 2014. Hilary won medals in backstroke at the Commonwealth Games and Olympic Games
SWIMMING STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING
Cam started working with Swimming Canada athletes in 2007 when he joined the Canadian Sports Institute as a Strength and Conditioning Coach.
He quickly formed a rapport with a young swimmer that year named Ryan Cochrane. That relationship lasted for 7 years and Ryan went on to win medals at both the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games while following Cam's strength and conditioning programs.
Through those seven years, Cam was fortunate to work with other very talented athletes, including Olympians Julia Wilkinson, Hilary Caldwell, Blake Worsley, and Alec Page.
Cam also had the pleasure of training Paralympian Stephanie Dixon, who amassed an amazing 16 medals in her Paralympic career.
The Island Swimming / Victoria Academy of Swimming program run by legendary coach Randy Bennett produced many medallists in FISU, Commonwealth, Junior Worlds, and PanPac Championships. Cam views his time with Swimming Canada and Island Swimming as some of his most enjoyable and productive.
